i have a 2700k cpu and a asrock z77 fatal1ty professional motherboard. when i try to overclock my cpu to 4.5 ghz i can boot just fine without problems. when i get into windows and fire up prime95, cpu z tells me that the processor is still running at 3.5 ghz.
these are the settings that i used:

i thought that because it is set to maximum turbo 4.5 ghz instead of regular frequenty, that i had to change it.

so i changed it to this:

but still cpu z will not go higher then 3.5 ghz

so now i tried to overclock using the advanced 30 turbo setting you can see in the picture. the motherboard will now change a lot of settings and set the clock speed to 4.7 ghz, but still in windows i don't see these results.

also i want the cpu to speed up to 4.5 ghz on all cores, but i don't want to run at this speed while idle.

does anybody have an idea how to correctly set the overclock

but the problem isnt a failing overclock because of wrong settings. i can boot just fine with these settings. when i manually set the speed to 4.5 ghz i raise the voltage with 0.005 volt. my processor can handle this very easily because i had it running at this speed when i bought this set from someone.

I agree with Raunak, try manually overclocking through the bios. Sometimes the settings you set through the overclocking utilities doesn't save and this sounds to be the case. Also increasing your processor speed by 1ghz with a voltage increase of only 0.005 volts isn't realistic and further leads me to believe the overclocking isn't been saved. Let me know how you get on
