Yo yo. I literally see this website every time I search up a question regarding computers in any way.

So here it is.

I have an Intel i5 3570k 3.4ghz and I have a Coolermaster (I'm not digging out the box to remember what it is but it's fairly decent aftermarket heat sink) installed on to it.

I am running the GIGABYTE Windforce GTX 770 (2gb) and I'm fairly certain that my 3570k is bottlenecking my 770.

Main reason I want to overclock is because Arma 3 is a pretty fricken demanding game and on ultra settings I'm only getting 40-45 FPS. (when in populated areas. I get smooth frames out in the wilderness)

My goal is to get better frames on Arma 3 (Every other game I have is destroyed by my rig)

My current specs:
Intel i5 3670k 3.4ghz overclocked to 4.1ghz (I've had this CPU for a couple months now and I've had it overclocked since the day I bought it. It consistently runs at about 60 degrees Celsius while playing games.

GIGABYTE Windforce GTX 770 (2gb) running at factory settings. I feel as if there is no point to overclocking my GPU because as it is the card is plenty for what I play. I THINK. Now if it indeed would be worth my time overclocking my GPU I'd be happy to do it. It's running at:
Memory: 2048
GPU Clock: 1137
Memory: 1753
Boost: 1189

Main question:

What is the LINE to overclocking my 3570k? I've heard it can comfortably sit at 4.3ghz.. But could it go higher?

And am I right in thinking my GPU is fast enough for my gaming, or should I think about overclocking that as well?

I just overclocked it to 4.3 and I'm going to play with this for the night and watch my temps closely. One thing I have seen from searching around is that if you start pushing the 3570k into 4.3 and 4.4 or above you may need to start adjusting voltage.

I think my system is automatically adjusting my voltage for me? I can watch the voltage going up and down when doing things.

And I could use a little bit of help overclocking my GPU. I've delved into it a little bit but I haven't really done it yet. What program did you use to overclock yours? I forgot which one I used.

I have an MSI 770 so I used afterburner and it's really easy. Just up the speed in increments of 10 until it freezes on benches or in games. As for your CPU yes you need and already are upping voltage but the bios will up it more than is necessary which increases temps

My information before was actually incorrect. I'm not sitting at 60 degrees Celsius. I overclocked it to 4.3 and am running Arma on ultra with max temp of 53 degrees on all cores.

So as far as cooling, that's no problem.

So you say my machine is automatically doing my voltage for me? All I basically have to do is carefully and slowly up the ghz and watch the temps. SLOWLY.

And as far as the GPU overclock, MSI Afterburner is what I used I think. And in 10 increments as well. I got this!

You should watch your volts as well you don't really want those going over 1.35 and you should check your temps while stress testing not just gaming. Use intel burn test or prime 95. Also keep an eye out in the Microsoft event viewer for any WHEA errors, that means your CPU isn't getting enough voltage and isn't always actually noticeable

Could you let me know where to look on the Event Viewer to find those WHEA errors?

I have the window up but not sure where to look.

1.35 VID ok. And Prime 95 yeah I was planning on running it later tonight for an hour or so while I watch Netflix or something.

Ok I got it. I've got Core Temp open and it's running no hotter than 53 degrees, no more than 1.23 volts, and no WHEA errors have been reported. Seems like 4.3 ghz is a solid and safe overclock. I'll run Prime 95 later to be even more sure. Tomorrow I'll repeat the steps for 4.4 ghz and if that's all smooth I'll even go up to 4.5 and repeat the steps again. If 4.5 is stable I will leave it there for good.

After all of that finagling is done I will move on to the GPU and fiddle around with that. Thanks for all the help and tips. Appreciate it.
