What happens if you disable the GPU driver?

People say before you upgrade GPU you must disable the old GPU driver in devmgmt.msc (device management). This is when you want to switch from integrated to dedicated.
But wouldn't disabling the driver cause video to stop working? If the GPU driver is disabled, does the Microsoft basic display adapter kick in?
One more question? Is the windows basic video driver sufficient, or is it best to install the GPU driver? Because I heard people have problems with their GPU drivers, and the windows driver is the most stable I know.

if you disable the Display Adapter or integrated graphics in device manager the screen or display is going to pop-up like lower resolution and bigger icons and everything like you see before installing drivers.
Below are 2 images integrated gpu enabled and disabled with full desktop.
Disabled:

It won't shutoff the display, just decrease the resolution. About last question, i would suggest you to install the gpu drivers or you wouldn't be able to take advantage of your graphics cards. Be positive and everything will go smooth and you don't have disable the integrated gpu as dedicated gpu will automatically overtake iGPU when you connect your...
