Hello All,

Hoping some of you will take the time to help out a novice PC builder with choosing his first PC components. I have never built before but I am looking forward to doing so and have done a pretty solid amount of research on the matter. My laptop has ceased to function and I am hoping to get this desktop together sooner rather than later.

As far as my needs go: I don't really game on the computer much, mostly listening to and downloading music, watching movies/tv, office stuff, and general internet surfing, studying and research. I would like fairly good integration with my speakers and tv (not sure if thats a hardware factor). Most important things to me are speed and reliability, have not had those in a while with my ancient laptop.

Ideally I'd like to keep my spending at about $400-500 (flexible) because I know I will have to purchase windows and other quality items afterward (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) Any and all help is appreciated, if anyone has done this before successfully I would very interested in simply duplicating what has already worked.

Thanks in advance!

plenty fast, reliable parts, very light gaming..... i would still always recommend a quad core if you want the computer to do your particular needs for the next 5-7 years.

This would work for general use, and has upgrade options if you wanted to upgrade in the future.

This build would be relying on the integrated graphics to run your movies and such. If you plan to do photoshop or other video/image editing/rendering then you would have different needs. You would also be able to add on a graphics card if you felt that you needed more power (to game or whatever) in the future.
