Cpu was overheating, so thought id clean and reinstall heat sink. Went to turn baco on, no video. Vid card is gtx 480, mobo is biostar ta970xe. 700 watt power supply. Hdds, dvd, wifi card, system fans all work. Fan on gpu spins up with red light. Tried reseating gpu and ram, still no video. Tried multiple vga cables on multiple monitors, still no output. Dont have an hdmi cable to try. Cpu is amd 8150, 32 gbs ram, and two 3 tb sata hdds. Any ideas of what i could be missing? Also, using phone to post so please ignore bad grammar and spelling.

Solution

OP has an FX8150 - no IGP in the CPU so no motherboard video.

Since OP says he cleaned the CPU heatsink, my guess is he knocked something out in the removal or re-install process... the CPU, DIMMs, ATX12V connector, main power connector, PCIe power cable, could have damaged a capacitor while moving the HSF or retention clip around, etc.

After looking with a magnifying glass, found a few (3-5, don't remember) that were bent from my own clumsiness. I would check that along with the above advice. Gpu and all other components were fine. Hope this helps
