Is the CX600m a good enough PSU for a single GTX 780 and a 4930k

I'm looking at getting a big upgrade for my system for renders and streaming, and I have decided on the 4930k and I'm just trying to figure out if I can use the GTX 780 in my build and possibly overclock the CPU a bit too, my specs would be
i7 4930k
Asus P9 X79 LE
Dark Rock 3 CPU cooler
8gb corsair XMS3 (4x2gb, 1600mhz 1.65 volts)
MSI GTX 780 Twin Frozr
1TB Caviar Black
if I cant fit the 780 I likely will have to get a 770 and a better PSU so any help on this matter would be helpful, thanks!

This (link) is a test of the i7 4930k. The whole system (with a GTX 670 idling) used 150W when the CPU was stress tested. A GTX 780, at absolute maximum, will pull 250W (normally lower). So yes, the CX600m is sufficient, but you won't have a huge headroom for overclocking (that CPU can use a lot more power* when heavily overclocked (more than 100W more)). But if you keep that in mind, you'll be fine with your CX600m. If you do want to overclock everything to the extreme though, a larger capacity PSU will probably be needed.

*The consumption figures in this link are taken at the wall, so in actual fact the PSU is under less load than it first appears (the PSU they used was approximately 85% efficient, so for example if it says it pulls 500W from the wall, the PSU is only actually being required to supply 425W).

i wouldnt trust a cx600m too much. the CX series has a capxon capacitor and some other non-japanese caps in it. some models have been known to explode.

i would highly advise a unit from tiers 1, 2 or 2b from this list http://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware/...

seasonic or xfx are great.

as far as the wattage... if you have a good quality psu (not a cx) you could make do on 600w but you might want to bump it up a few notches to give yourself some overhead.

True, it's not ideal long term, as it's only a tier 3 PSU, but if it's a choice right now, money wise, of getting a 780, or getting a 770 and a new PSU, I'd personally go for the 780, and aim to upgrade the PSU within the next year (it's got a 3 year warranty, so I'd hope Corsair have some faith in it :D ).

But yes, as you say ssddx, if you're going to get a new PSU now, an XFX or Seasonic would be a good choice.

and this one is specific to the cx 600 m
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj8-wNmYJvM

honestly i wouldnt trust them for any more than about half of the rated wattage.

dont get me wrong... i've used the cx series before... (a cx430m in an a10 build) but it was way under half the maximum wattage so shouldnt ever be a problem. if you go pushing it though (he mentioned overclocking) you might have a suprise one morning.

True; better to be safe than sorry I suppose. Especially with $1000 worth of CPU and GPU.

I wouldn't be going for an extreme overclock, just something like 4ghz MAYBE 4.2 until I could get a new PSU and a custom water loop

Mild overclocking should be fine , but don't push it due to the lower quality supply.

Here is a nice deal on a SEASONIC.

So do you think I would be able to last a while on this PSU with a mild overclock like that? Do you know about what temps I would be looking at?

With the Dark ROCK you should be fine with mild overclocking , even with the CX600.

Upgrade when you can.

So about 4.2 is all I should go for? I dont plan on overclocking the gpu

What is your definition of mild? I don't want to make everything go boom
