Using Two Fans to Cool CPU?

Hello everyone,

My CPU cooler is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus, which is pretty much identical to the 212 EVO if you're more familiar with that. Anyways, recently I have noticed some weird sounds coming from the fan on the 212, which is the one that came with the cooler itself. I am going to be getting a replacement fan soon, but before I order it, I wanted to clarify a few things.

First, I was going to just order the same fan that comes with the 212, the Cooler Master Blade Master 120 because it seems to have good reviews, specifications, and is cheap. Is this the best route for me to go in terms of getting a new fan for the 212?

Also, I was thinking (since the Blade Master 120 is only ~$11) that I would get 2 fans and mount them on the cooler in a push-pull configuration to get some cooler temperatures on my system. Even though my temperatures are already pretty good even with a semi-faulty fan (29C idle, 42-45C gaming, 50-55C on full throttle benchmarks on long durations), I figured why the heck not? Are there any drawbacks or reasons I shouldn't use 2 fans on the Hyper 212? If it is fine, is using 2 Blade Master 120's a good idea?

And now to my final question. If I do decide to get the two fans for push-pull, how exactly do I set them up besides the easy part of mounting both fans? My motherboard is the Asus M5A97 R2.0, which only has one CPU fan power plug, next to a case fan plug. You can take a look in this picture, it is on the very left edge of the motherboard in the photo, just above the CPU power connector, the middle of the three prongs. http://i1.minus.com/iYdyqAlmUUHm5.jpg

Also, this image is a little bit more clear. This time the three fan connections I was talking about are in the top middle of the picture.

Anyways, my question is, do I need any special software/hardware/cables to get the fans running properly in tandem, or can I just plug the second one in the CHA_FAN2 spot and expect for all to go swimmingly? I tried researching this topic on my own, but pretty much came up with nothing, except maybe something about a cable that takes the CPU_FAN connector spot and splits it into two. Would I need any of this stuff?

Thank you so much!

EDIT: I think I found the cable I read earlier, would I need this ( http://www.amazon.com/Link-Depot-3-Pin-Y-Cable-Splitter/dp/B000CD7V34 ) and would connect it to the CPU_FAN 4-pin connector?

Push/Pull will drop your temps a little more. If you want to stick with the blademasters they are good fans at a good price.

Your motherboard should have a CPU_OPT fan header next to the CPU_FAN header, if you do then plug one fan into each and they will spin at the same speed. Or you can get 2 way PWM fan splitter but that's more money and more cable inside your system.

Oh, that's interesting, well if it costs more than double the price and does almost nothing it sounds to me like it isn't close to worth it. I'll do some more digging myself, but it seems to me that I might just end up getting a single Blademaster 120.

I looked at my motherboard and the picture provided, and I was unable to find a CPU_OPT fan header, only CHA_FAN2 and CHA_FAN3 are near the CPU_FAN header. If spending more than double on a second fan and extra cable clutter only gives me a net gain of a few degrees, I don't really think that it may be all that worth it. I mean, I wasn't expecting it to halve my temperatures or anything, but just from seeing stuff here and around the web, it seems like the extra clutter won't be worth it. What do you think, will a single Blade Master 120 do well enough?

I have the 212 PLUS, and it is very capable with just the included fan.

Yeah I know that I just was mulling some stuff over... thanks, I think I'll just get another Blade Master 120
