And today i was talking to a buddy who said that i should get a 4770k instead, will it really make that much of a difference though? In terms of speed, the faster the better, but if the 4770k is really close in most things then i will think about that. I use blender, rhino, nearly everything in adobe cs6 (mostly photoshop, premiere and after effects) and a lot of 3d. I will also most likely be hosting some variety of servers, like minecraft, tekkit, and other such games, and be able to work as these servers are up, which i know can take up a lot of cpu usage and ram usage. Would it really be worth investing the extra money into this cpu? I will be using it a lot more for editing than gaming, and its uptime will be close to 18-24 hours a day. I do like the idea of 64GB of Ram, though if i choose the 4930, i would need to find good ram and a motherboard, that could sustain minor overclocking, But if i choose the 4770k there is only 4 ram slots and i am not going to buy sticks of 16 The other thing is that i will be ending putting another 290x into crossfire, and most likely will be running 3 1080p monitors (which i have yet to find) or 2 Asus PB278Q's. Which cpu would be better at handling 4k? (i plan to edit and record in 4k later on) i know i will have plenty of juice with Vram. do not worry about price, if it stays under 3000 that would be wonderful.

So sorry for the long explanation :) but thats what questions i have, thanks!

For video editing i'd go with a gtx 780 or a 780 Ti because Nvidia GPU's work better with Adobe software. Also, if you're going to be making any sort of 3d models i'd go with a 4930K because 3d modeling is very GPU and CPU intensive. Also, if you do a ton of 3D modeling i'd suggest going with an even higher end GPU because 3D modeling and editing usually requires a workstation grade GPU.

hmm the only problem would be the price. $200 more for the 780ti but it may be worth it, And since i am gaming with this build, a workstation gpu would not be the most practical thing to do, any other suggestions? I am planning on using this machine for at least 6-8 years without replacing things

ASUS Sabertooth X79 is Newegg's highest rated LGA 2011 motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131801&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= You'll have to change your memory to 1866 though, that is the max speed supported according to newegg.

From Tweaktown: There's a lot when it comes to the Sabertooth line and what it ultimately all comes down to is that ASUS created this motherboard that carries with it a massive 5 year warranty. For people who hold their system for a significant amount of time, this is a real bonus. Considering the associated cost of an X79 system, the chances are you'll probably not be upgrading any time soon.

You're going to have replace stuff within 4 years no matter what. CPU's are usually completely outdated within 4 years and thats when you want to replace it. Also, I don't think that a 780 Ti is going to be enough for gaming in 6 years based on how fast technology is advancing.

Go for the gtx 780/ti, most packages are adapting cuda core support like after effects, if i'm not mistaken even maya and other 3d softwares are utilizing cuda cores for better performance, tho 3d packages majorly depends on cpu cores rather than cpu speed(ie more cores better performance, rendering times etc)...
To have best balance between a gaming build and vfx/editing build in my opion is i7 4930k , 6cores/12 threads very good for editing and 3d work. Also ram is important when ur gonna do 4k editing so, i7 4930k lets you to have way more ram than i7 4770k.
Hope this helps.
