Newly built computer, problem booting?

I just finished putting together my custom built PC and when I went ahead and put the USB in for windows 8.1, it's stuck on the black screen with the blinking underscore line... I read elsewhere on the internet that usually it's hard drive failure, or a loose connection (i ruled out hard drive failure seeing as 1, I'm booting off of a usb 2.0 to install, and 2 they are brand new hard drives.) So I opened the case back up and checked the connections, they were perfect, i put it back together and tried again, still the same error. I am pretty upset about this but I figured it wouldn't go smoothly the first time. I've already gone into the bios and gotten the drivers installed for the version of windows but its still giving me this screen.

Thanks for your help!!!

Solution
If your SSD is recognised in BIOS and you still cannot progress your installation, suspect your USB Installation drive. Perhaps try another method to create?
Ignore the Disk part if you already have an ISO
To convert an Installation disk into a USB Installation Drive

Require Installation Disk and 8 Gb USB Pendrive.

Download and run Infrarecorder

Are the drives recognised in BIOS? There may be two screens to prioritise your drives, a Boot Priority and a Drive Priority, make sure your SSD is listed in both. Initially it may help by just having the SSD SATA cable connected, you can connect the HDD any time once Windows installed. To ensure the perfect installation, install to Unallocated Space on your SSD, don't Format or create any partitions.

Thanks for your reply! I did try unplugging the hard drive from the motherboard, and making sure the sad is in the top of both the boot list and the storage list, but I still am getting the underscore. I've used 2 flash drives with 2 different ISO's now but it's still not working...

I tried the bios to see if there is a default setting, and found one in boot order and attempted to boot off of that, and that didn't work. I only found a legacy option for the USB's and turned that on and nothing happened there either.

Any other suggestions before I give up and call for help?

Try googling your SSD model to see if anyone else has had problems with it, though that's more likely to be BIOS problems with actual recognition.... Should be a Legacy Boot option, too...
