Recently I started having random folders appear on my external hard drive, they can be seen in this screenshot
http://prntscr.com/3f1q4p
Does anyone have any idea what is causing them, and how to stop them. I can delete all of them but the one. The one I cant delete only has one thing in it and its a folder titled amd64...

Windows Updates stores files in extracts to the volume with the most free space prior to installation.

These appear to be the SHA1 and MD5 of the Windows Updates. They make look-ups faster and far more reliable as two different patches with the same name will not have the same hash values.

If they are over 72 hours old, and you have restarted since they can be safely deleted.

Also, if you remove your external hard drive without safely removing it this can prompt this more frequently.
