Beaglebone Black Vs assembled PC?

I fell for the whole 'Raspberry Pi - Beaglebone' marketing ploy and bought the latter, and now I realize that it is not as price effective a tool as it is made out to be, especially because price and portability are the only two USP that these brands rely on.

At ~45$ I can get a used laptop, or build a basic PC which will be twice as powerful as the beaglebone black. As far as portability goes, well, it still needs a 5volt supply so I will still need to be indoors. If I buy a battery pack then, well, I will have broken the price point.

Long story short : Did I make a mistake buying this portable computer? My OCD is firing up.

My take on Raspberry Pi is that they are a hobby. Not a pc. So it depends what you wanted.

You won't get anything good as a pc or laptop for $45 - even second hand.

you can't buy a motherboard for a 'basic PC' for $45 let alone build the whole thing...if you were wanting something for regular usage tasks...then you chose wrong, the BB and Pi are meant for hackers, programmers, and tinkerers. They don't have the power or drivers to give you a smooth experience doing everyday stuff. If you have wifi, buy a low end android tablet, if not, cruise craigslist for something past a P4. My two cents.
