This is my problem too. Things highlight when hovering the mouse but clicking doesnt work.

The computer may have overheated or the hard drive got too full but I made space and let it cool down. I can use the keyboard. Updating the mouse driver didnt help. Win7 64 bit pro. Multiple reboots recovery didnt help.

Here's a few things you can try:
If you have another mouse try that on your PC. If it works, then there may be a problem with your main mouse.

Try your mouse on a different PC to see if it works there.

Also try your mouse in a different USB port on your PC.

Yep, the mouse had a physically worn out clicker mechanism. Just a coincidence that broke the same day as hot weather and an overloaded hard drive. Thanks!
