Hello, I'm looking for input

Today I dug out a WD Caviar Green 2TB drive WD20EARS, which I bought a few years ago but ended up not needing, so it's brand new so to say.

Problem is, Windows doesn't recognise it, disk management only shows my OS drive(WD Caviar Black Sata3). Mobo is an MSI G45 btw. I know for sure that the sata port & cable is fine because I had another HDD connected there this morning. I thought it's just dead, but to my surprise BIOS recognises it fine, and it spins when I put my hand over it. Tried putting it in a different system, with an ASUS M4A77TD PRO board, the same.

Is it safe to say that it's simply factory dead/faulty?

Thanks in advance

edit: BIOS is set to AHCI, if that makes any difference

Solution
Well if two completely different systems are unable to see it in Windows Disk Management, then I would guess that the drive is defective somehow. Is AHCI enabled on the boot drives for these two systems? You could try to set the port that the drive is connected on to IDE and see if that makes a difference.

Other system is IDE, since the mobo is older, so I would say it's a dead drive.

Many times you can start the RMA process online with WD. It will ask for the serial number of the drive and it checks to see if the drive is still under warranty. If it is, you are issued an RMA number. If I remember correctly, I didn't have to provide a receipt.

Thanks, I'll try that

edit: it's out of warranty, damn..
