I'm starting to look around for a new desktop computer after our old one finally gave up. I've found one with the link below. It will be mostly used for internet browsing, playing music, and Microsoft Office. Of course this would be no problem, but there are a few more specifications: namely playing The Sims 3 and Sim City (latest version). Basically I want to know if the below PC (with 4 more GB of RAM added) will be suitable to play the two games mentioned.

In case anyone has any other suggestions, our limit is £400.

We already have a mouse, keyboard and speakers from the old unit, but if there's any money left over, we may look at getting a new monitor with HDMI port for better quality display.

Our operating system preference is Windows 7 as it would be easier for the whole family to use and allow me to play a few older games.

As far as choosing AMD or Intel, I'm impartial so whatever's more suitable. However 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive is minimum.

If you need for details, please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks so much for any help!

I'm so sorry I forgot to reply to you. There's really no excuse, I just forgot. It seems like the 8570D is from 3rd most recent generation of AMD graphics cards (ATI changed name to AMD a couple of years ago) so it should handle sub-1080p resolutions fine, but I think the gtx750 would be more reliable. Not only does it consume much less power, you can also safely upgrade to a 1080p display and play any modern title you should fancy without too much trouble (you will of course have to turn down some of the game's graphical settings to have a nice framerate). If you still have it, I would reccomend using the gtx750.

As I don't play any of the Sims games, I don't know how demanding they are, but since you have an older monitor that probably has a resolution of less than 1920x1080, any graphics card from the 2-3 last generations should suffice, but if you want to upgrade to 1080p, the nvidia geforce gtx 750 is a great option as it consumes much less power than other graphics cards on the same level (£72 on newegg). With that card you can also buy any other game without worrying if your computer can handle it or not. There is a review with benchmarks of its slightly bigger brother (gtx 750ti) here on Tom's. I would reccomend building the pc yourself though. You can head over to http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcforme, write about your situation and people will gladly suggest parts for you. It is quite popular, so any unprofessional suggestions will quickly be shot down by professionals. Guides to putting the components together are all over the internet, and it is not difficult when you already have picked your components.

Thank you Skallagrim1. I think it's unlikely I'll build our new computer, even though I would be able to find how-to guides. Apart from installing a PSU, I've no experience let alone the time so I think it better if I stick to pre-made.
Do you know if the included graphics card ATI 8570D is, as you said, from the last 2-3 generations?
Also, I have an Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 that I bought a while ago and haven't been able to use. Would that be compatible with the computer I've posted?
