Hi.

just hoped someone could clarify if adding a second fan to my cm hyper 212 evo should you use a fan splitter cable and run the fans from the same cpu fan supply or use fan optional supply as on z87 pro.

Any thoughts about best way to have the second fan facing appreciated.

Cheers

Solution
Your PRO has 2 CPU fan headers, one is CPU AUX I think. The primary CPU fan header reads the rpm from the fan connected to it, the second one does not. BOTH send out a PWM signal to the fans connected to them, the same signal to each depending on the fan profile.

Connect your second cooler fan to this header, don't bother with a splitter because your MB has taken care of that for you already.

Yeap I did figure that out thanks but I think I was just trying to see if others would work from the one supply point or use 2 - which would be best practise...

cheers

Great thanks for clarifying. Ok so just one other query. My board has chassis fan 4 pin supply points but are they pwn ? The reason I ask this is that my case fans are 3 pin so was thinking of changing the rear fan for a 4 pin if the board will send a signal from the chassis point.

Many thanks

On the ASUS Z87 PRO all of the fan headers will auto detect PWM (4-pin) or VC (3-pin) fans and control them properly. If plugging a 3-pin fan into a 4 pin header make sure pin 1 is matched on cable and header. The AUX CPU header is the only one that has no control, it is controlled off the main CPU header. How well this works is dependent on fan speed range.

My suggestion is either use PWM or VC fans on your MB, don't mix them up, for best results. One note, the CPU header will not control a VC fan, it is PWM ONLY.
