My computer will slightly freeze and then recover when installing windows updates from the desktop while freezing it makes this slightly high pitched sound and then stops. I had a blue screen over a month ago and I posted on a forum regarding it, it pointed to the hal.dll+12a3b and pointed to a 124 bug check code which said I had a faulty l2 cache on my cpu. I was told on that forum to replace my cpu. They had also told my that there is some software out there that can cause this, like bios software from motherboard venders so i've uninstalled easytune from gigabyte. Since that time I havent had a bsod post but the computer still freezes when gaming or installing windows updates. Sometimes the freezes result in me having to push the power button to turn it off. I've ran memtest and passed. I've ran seatools for my hardrive and it is fine. My gpu and cpu temps are fine. So I guess my question is what does windows 7 do when installing updates like what is it using when this is happening? I know this might not be the thread for this but rma the cpu and motherboard seem like a pain because i'm in a wheelchair and it was pain to put everything in the case for me so if i can figure this out without rma it would be a better solution.

System specs:
i5-4670
GigaByte Z87X-UD3H
Gtx 760
