Is my connection, using an USB Wifi Adapter, secure?

Hello, This is my first time creating a thread. So if I didn't adhere to any formatting rules of my question, please do inform me. This is more of an advice thread than one that requires detailed technical walkthrough.

Recently my family bought me an External USB Wifi Adapter for 12 euro's. This one supports WPA2-PSK. (My notebook already has a built in wifi adapter, but it was malfunctioning, so it would be a nice tool until I got it working again.)

When I plugged it into my USB port (Windows 8 Notebook), I could immediately use it to connect with my secure network and browse the internet. I did not install the included driver or the included "Utility and Driver Configuration" program from the resource CD. (I think, this is because my notebook already was capable of handling wifi networks.)

The network I am using has the security "WPA2-PSK" label on it.

However I keep worrying that my connection with the network using the USB Adapter is not secure, because I haven't installed the included driver. So I don't know if this affects the security of my connection using the adapter. I also worry that the security of my connection is dependent on my (cheaper?) adapter.

When I look at the details of my connection with the network, it says that the connection has the "WPA2-PSK" property.

So, could someone tell me if I should consider the connection secure? (i.e. that I don't have a rational reason to worry that people can read my connection data.)

Is it even possible to initiate an unsecure connection with a network which uses "WPA2-PSK"? (or would the network simply throw you out if you couldn't start the required security?)

Would you consider the connection between the Adapter and the network secure or would you still go ahead and at least install the driver? (Would installing the driver possibly induce problems with windows 8, if the system already has the functionality to handle Wifi?)

Please do give me some advice on what you would do, or some peace of mind if you believe it is fine as it is.

Solution
Your network is secure if it is connecting using encryption like WPA2-PSK. If the network adapter is working well then there is no need to install drivers.

It is not possible to initiate a unsecured connection on a wireless network that is secured.
