Hi there

I found my old Logitech MX518 in a box under the bed recently and thought I'd see if it still worked. I hadn't used it for about 6 years but as far as I remember it was fine when I stopped using it. However, the wheel doesn't respond at all (clicking the wheel down works) and neither do the right mouse button or the increase sensitivity button. I've tried several versions of logitech's software and all the drivers are apparently fine. Aside from those buttons, the mouse works. I opened it up and cleaned a load of gunk off the wheel - it all looked fine inside. Anyone help? Thanks in advance. I'm on Windows 8.

That's a little tougher...do they "click" properly? If not, see how they behave when you open it up again. I recently disassembled a Logitech G5 for cleaning, and getting everything lined up just right during reassembly took a couple of attempts.
You may have fairly easily cleaned out hair and dust, but in six years, it is possible that "something else" (e.g. bug juice) may be encrusted on one or more optical sensors, or USB contacts may be dirty or corroded.
These problems (except corrosion) can most likely be addressed with a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol.

From the outside it looks fine. Everything clicks fine. That's why I thought it might be a driver or firmware problem, though apparently this mouse doesn't use firmware. I don't know what I would clean inside because everything looks clean. I'll try the alcohol and see what happens.
