Hi I am possibly going to build a gaming PC very soon, and I was curious if I could use something like Ubuntu or lunix instead of paying 100 dollars on top of my build for an OS....Are these operating systems difficult to use?Or should I play it safe and just get a dedicated windows OS?
Sorry for the Scrubby question I don't know much about the PC realm.

well, with linux, you wont get as many compatible games as you would with windows

so in the end its your choice.

For a gaming PC, Windows is really your only solution.
Some games do run well under Linux, but by far not all.

And the $100 is not 'on top of' your build. The OS is just as much a part of a PC as is the CPU/GPU/RAM/etc....
Get the OS that matches your needs. For a gaming PC, Windows.

Actually it depends on the games. If steam is your thing then Ubuntu or mint will make you turn your back on windows. If not then you need windows. As a rule Linux is for work so what you may want to do is dual boot on a system you have now and try the games you like and then decide. gaming its coming, but not there yet.

If I may just clarify that answer. You make it sound as if games purchased on Steam will work on Linux. This is not true. I have a total of 18 games that I purchased on Steam; 18 run on Windows, 3 on OS X, and 1 on Linux.

Some games will run under Linux, but it is a very restricted selection. Linux is certainly an alternative to Windows, but it is not a substitute for Windows. If you are into programming then it's great - gaming, not so good.

There are 20 featured linux games listed at the steam site. Again, not a substitute replacement for windows gaming unless those are the games you want or until others join up. Like Skittles says work with Linux and buy a playstation.
