Upgrading to new computer: Can I transfer the OEM License?

My wife's computer is close to death. I have on my desk a new computer waiting only for a new SSD. The system disk in the old computer is a Home Prem OEM Win 7. What I'm reading is the license is only transferable if the mobo is the same. The mobo in question is over 5 years old and I doubt I could find a similar board. Anyway, who wants to stay in the past besides MS?

What kind of options do I have (no, my wife does not like Linux of any flavor, BTDT), if any?

You got lucky. That's the 50-50 chance I was talking about. If it catches you, it will ask you to confirm it was only used on one computer. Then it's another 50-50 chance if it allows it to go thru or has you talk to a rep from MS. But no big deal. It is working and all is good.

I was able to upgrade the existing OEM disk via phone activation. Was easy as eating a raison snail. Only problem I had was entering wrong numbers (I'm an ancient geezer). It was so easy, I'm thinking that MS is going forward with allowing a Win7 Home Edition OEM to be upgraded at will. Easy Peasy.
