Crossfire with newer cards, fans not spinning at idle...?!

Okay, so here is my observations from yesterday. I have two 290x in CF in my new system. I used CF for many years, but it is the first time I hear about this, or experience this.

So yesterday I notice my lower card fans not spinning. I though there was a problem with it until after testing my first game, I notice that at idle one of my card is shutting down to save power.

Are there other people who can confirm this with me?

My system is in my signature.

I had a similar experience when experimenting with a pair of HD 7750 in CF. The 2nd card's fan would not spin at idle. I assumed it was a new protocol to conserve power. In 2D activity, the card would look like it was not running. And may not have been. But as soon as I entered a 3D display, like a game, the card would spin up. That was the first time I noticed it too. I can't remember which version of the driver I was using, but it was one of the recent ones. I thought it might have been something to do with using low end cards in CF that caused it. But from your experience, apparently not.

I'll know what to expect now when I add a 2nd 290X... lol.

I just wanted to point out the actual reply to my question to Powercolor technical support. It is confirming what I was thinking about the new Crossfire support by AMD. I hope it will answer some people questions.

Dear User,

Yes, it is normal. Because AMD has a ZeroCore technology, it will save power when graphic card idling. When you doing crossfire function but system is idling, it will power off one graphic card to save power. When you start running games or other heavy loading of display, the power off card will be turned on and back to work.
