Yeah... i just wanna know because i got a Radeon R9 270 DirectCUII couple of weeks ago and when i put crysis 3 on max i get like min 30 frames and when i lower the shadows only it is like 45 min... I have Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5Ghz is it still a good cpu to play games at?
I was planning to get I5 - 3470 Ivy Bridge 3.5Ghz

Any advice highly appericated Thanks !

The FX 6300 also does well in Crysis 3 and would be an improvement over your current CPU, though an 8 core AMD chip might be better to compensate for AMD's poor per core performance. Crysis 3 is one of the few games that can actually benefit from 8 cores right now. The AMD stock cooler also isn't the greatest, and has a reputation for being loud and not offering particularly good cooling performance on the FX chips with high core counts, so you may want and aftermarket CPU cooler.
Shadows can be CPU intensive. Crysis 3 is also a very CPU heavy game, and pretty much requires a pretty fast quad core CPU or better for optimum performance. Core 2 Quads do struggle with Crysis 3 at higher settings, especially if they are clocked lower. The i5 3470 would be a pretty big jump over your current CPU, but would also require a new motherboard, and possibly new RAM too if you have DDR2 RAM. At this point it may be more prudent to look at the newer Haswell chips for Intel, eg. Core i5 4570, they're a little bit faster, and a bit more power efficient. Ivy Bridge certainly isn't bad though, and might be a good option if you can get it significantly cheaper than a Haswell CPU.

Yes i had that under my consideration, i am serching for bundles right now and found one of those:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-Bulldozer-FX-6300-M5A78L-M-Motherboard/dp/B00F44PUI4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1398985197&sr=8-2&keywords=amd+fx6-6300+black+edition+bundle

Is that cpu good too to run me Crysis 3 Ultra again, i have recognised that there are also 8Gb of 1600Mhz ram which is pretty cool i guess as crysis needs 8.

Waiting for response Krysto :D

Both.

The existence of the shadow to a particular object on the scene is CPU and GPU (vertex shader calculations) dependent.
shadow resolution and shadow filtering are 100% GPU (Pixel shaders calculations) dependent

So if a game have a setting that removes the shadow from faraway objects, or very small objects then is going to impact the CPU and GPU.

If a game have a setting that alters the quality of the shadow then is going to impact GPU only.
