So ive been a member here for a while and so far you guys have been spot on with your support in my journey butttt i now have a new dilemma

my mobo: msi 970a-g43
cpu: 8150
cooler evo 212

the reason im here is because i have a well sized mid tower with 3 120mm case fans 2 pulling in and 1 pushning out. When i first got the cooler i could hit a steady 4.5 ghz and be stable at a idle of 55-60 deg C... within the past month ive been overheating sooo much ive had to underclock my cpu to 3.4 ghz just to keep the idle below 80C. forget playing games, i run bf4 with res scale at 50% and still overheat after 1/2 hour. thats with the cpu starting at room temp??? i do plan on doing a custom loop but i have yet to get the waterblock, tubing, and liquids, i already have a 360mm rad and a pump. I heard the 212 was a good air cooler??

Solution
extra heat in the case causing the cpu temp to raise, just from the vrm, or NB/SB or a gpu. Dust build up or dried up thermal paste under the cooler. The 212 evo is a good air cooler for the cost, there are better ones but the evo is the best performance to price it should cool ur 8150 no prob with an OC. it must be other things causing the problem, re apply thermal paste if ur going to continue using it before ur custom loop

You're idling @ 60c?? You should be idling around 35-40 MAX. Thats your problem right there. If your temps were that bad when you first installed the cooler you probably did it wrong the first time. Now the problem has gotten out of hand.

Remove and reapply thermal paste. A little goes a long way just spread a thin layer.

i havent got any extra thermal paste on hand, however i usually use the paste that comes with the cooler on most of my other builds. Is that good, bad, or should i just get a mayonnaise jar full of 1 brand and stick with it?

PS: my temp after browsing youtube for an hour is 85 deg C ........ i even underclocked to 3.4 ghz... sny help would be appreciated. its turned my room into a oven

These Bulldozers to put out a lot of heat. Are you interpreting thermal margin correctly?

unless theyve changed it, im pretty certian that i understand. right now it stays at around 20C but as soon as i even pull up simple games like minecraft on low settings or even left for dead it immediatly goes to 5C

yeaaaa overdrive is telling me that its staying at 20C at idle, the fans cooled it for about 1 minute then it went right back to original

Yeah, here is a suggestion. Instead of dye, just use colored tubes. The die eventually just makes a big mess and causes all kinds of problems as far as clogging and performance. You can add a slight amount of propylene glycol to inhibit corrosion and add a silver coil as a biocide.

ok thx for the advice, this will be the first time ever watercooling

Therre is a huge water cooling section of the forums over at overclock.net, and they also sell qulity used parts in the marketplace there. It's worth checking.

Alright first off whatever reading your getting is way off. The temp at what the cpu will just shut down to protect it self is 65c. If your idling at 65c it means your temp sensors are way off. Using HWmoniter with my 6300 I know that the temp sensor is off always by 10c as my cpu will shutdown at 55c rather then 65/70 area. By knowing what temp it is gauranteed to shutdown at I know how far off the temp reading actually is.

Now I am not recommending overloading your cpu or anything although to be fair if you have a decent mobo your not really going to do any damage to it. The evo is probably fine for a slight overclock on the fx8xxx series. For the large overclock you have though it just is not able to handle it. Your temp readings though at idle at 80c is just wrong. A sensor has to be off in the cpu or mobo or something.

if i reboot as soon as i overheat and go into bios it says the cpu is around 80-85C and ive used everything from cpu-z, speed fan, overdrive, and even HW monitor and they all give the same reading within 5-10 C
