on occasion, wired connections stop working while wifi continues to work

So I've had this router for about a year now, has been working fine but recently its been acting up, very strange issues. I can be using the internet ALL day, then all of a sudden, nothing loads. I don't get any errors, no lack of connection, nothing. Everything looks fine on my end, my connection says its still good, I'm still receiving signals and sending signals on the network card, I can still access both the modem and the router with their respective IPs.

However, like I said, nothing is actually working as if it was connected. My browser just tries loading the sites indefinitely, STEAM says I'm offline, Spotify says I'm offline, nothing seems like I'm actually connected but by network connection isn't showing anything wrong. This occurs on 2 out of 2 wired PCs(custom built) on my network. Now, the weird part (weird to me anyway) is that the wifi works just fine. Laptop? No problem. Phone? Yup, every phone in the house can use the wifi just fine. (all 3 of them) Hell, OUYA, SmartTV and PS3 have no troubles with the wifi. Just the wired PCs.

If I were to hard reset (unplug for ~1 min) both modem and router, it usually fixes the issue temporarily, until it occurs again which could be anywhere from one hour to a few days. Like I said, the connection is working all day with no problems and then out of nowhere both wired PCs will "lose" connection while the wifi is still running A-OK. So I'm thinking maybe its the router? Any ideas?

Modem: Motorola Corporation sb5101 (http://www.motorola.com/us/SURFboard-SB5101U-Cable-Modem-DOCSIS-2.0/SB5101u-SURFboard-Cable-Modem.html)

Router: DIR 825 (dlink) http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/routers/dir-825-xtreme-n-dual-band-gigabit-router

The modem is a bit outdated and it doesn't use docsis 3.0 but I don't think that would cause an issue like this...

The PCs are custom built and managed by me, they are several years old by now and have been working fine up until this started happening. (not sure when, probably a few months ago)

Nope, two very different MOBOs, one is an ASUS (M3A), the other is a newer MSI(870A). I did update the MSI's network driver just now though, apparently there was a newer update from about 2 months ago. Still, can't know for sure if that fixed it or not til the issue comes up again.

Ok the issue popped up again, both computers still the same issue, despite updating the drivers on one. Exact same thing. Wifi is working fine on the phones and the laptop, the desktops are saying "offline" in my apps (steam, spotify, skype) and my browser just loads and loads and loads but never gets anywhere.

One thing that may help find a solution : On the other desktop (the M3A mobo), when it went offline, the browser was connecting to certain websites, google.com, gmail, youtube, and wikipedia. Most others were as I said before, just loading infinitely.

I unplugged the modem and router for a minute and that resolved the issue for now, but as I said before, this continues to occur and its a bit obnoxious... especially if someone is streaming a movie or in the middle of a game.
