I just got a new headset and my old one ran through usb so i never used the front audio ports. I just plugged them in and set the realtek high deffintion audio device (my headphone mic) as the default. So it doesnt pick up anything through the mic unfortuneately. I updated my driver and still nothing. any help would be appreciated

Headset is HS30 by Corsiar and uses 2 3.5mm jacks

Solution
So i figured out what my problem was. This is for anyone who is having a similar problem. I use a Nvidia GPU and as a result i have Nvidia High Deffinition Audio installed on my computer. If you disable it from device manager under the sounds section your microphone becomes useable. this is due to using a HDMI port on your GPU like i am using currently interfering somehow with the onboard sound. I hope this ends up helping someone

Here's a few things to try:

1. Make sure the headphones inline mute switch is not enabled.
2. Try headphone mic on the back panel mic port.
3. Set headphones mic as default in Recording Devices
4. Make sure headphone mic Levels is maxed, and not muted in Recording Devices
5. Make sure the front audio cable is securely plugged into the front audio header of your motherboard

Good luck!

Sounds like an application based problem since the mic works from Windows directly.
If you go to: Recording Devices > your mic > Properties > Advanced Tab

Then under exclusive mode, are 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' and 'Give exclusive mode applications priority' checked?
