Here's the challenge-
Start with $2000 to build a computer, must have a useable gaming rig, house useful rig for video software, large files, power director video editing. Then, every year for 5 years spend $500 to upgrade and keep the system as cutting edge as possible. Can replace or add items.

Thoughts-
whats expensive now but will be less expensive in a couple years? Im thinking SSD drives will be much less expensive in a couple years, so could wait on that.

Graphics cards always progress so I can wait until the current top end are half their price. so thats obviously a spot to buy a reasonable one now and plan to upgrade it down the road.

Here's my first set of components:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4820K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor ($320.98 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM ($29.95 @ Amazon)
Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g ($6.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme6 ATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($224.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($165.98 @ Newegg)
Storage: A-Data Premier Pro SP900 256GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($119.99 @ TigerDirect)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($82.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($399.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Silverstone Temjin SST-TJ04B-E (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($149.00 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Raidmax 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX ($128.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($19.98 @ OutletPC)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro (OEM) (64-bit) ($129.99 @ Amazon)
Sound Card: Asus Xonar DSX 24-bit 192 KHz Sound Card ($59.24 @ Amazon)
Keyboard: Cooler Master Storm QuickFire Rapid Wired Gaming Keyboard ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Mouse: Logitech G700s Wireless Laser Mouse ($69.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $1979.01

both the cpu and the gpu are upgradeable as the future goes.
How's this look? Give me your advice.
Thanks! J

The thread is open for some fun speculation and thoughts on future developments.

As mentioned above, no the 1150 socket currently has the Haswell CPUs like 4670K and 4770K, the socket itself has new backward compatible mobos coming out about 10th of May (the Z97 chipset) which also will have base Haswell Refresh CPUs, to be followed by refresh K models around the end of May, first of June, then Broadwell, new Gen of CPUs later on....the 2011 socket you are looking at just updated to the IB-E CPUs 4820 that you are looking at, 4930K etc as I mentioned.....these will be followed in the future by the Haswell-E CPUs, which will require a new chipset/mobo the X99/2011-3

Thats a great comment for me. I didn't know that and will look at the ASUS website and study their boards for the 97's. Thanks!
