Im thinking about upgrading my gpu, the 770 2gb i can get it for $295 and R9 290 will be $399.
Is the R9 290 worth the $100 more? or should i buy the 770 and put the $100 towards something else?

another question, is the 770 2gb will be able to play games in 3 monitors?

This is what I have right now
FX 8350
AsRock Extreme 3 mobo
8gb ram
Corsair AX750 psu
gxt 750ti

thank you

Then the R9 290 would be best for you. With 4gb of gddr5 vram, it will be plenty for multiple screens. The GTX 770 is good, butwith 2GB of gddr5 vram , it will...

Get the 770 and a better CPU (you can get the 4670k or a large ssd with an extra 100) and later (2 or 3 years) you can upgrade to the 980ti or something like that.
Side question: is this upgrading an existing build or is this a new build?

The 290 is a decent bit better than the 770, not similar in performance at all... I'd spend the extra on it personally, but I don't know what games or resolution you are playing at. That extra vram can come in handy, and it'll last you longer.

As for getting an Intel processor, the 8350 will work perfectly fine, you won't see a huge performance difference. Certainly don't bother with an I7 if you look at them though, I5 at most would work, but if the 8350 is cheaper then nothing is wrong with it.

Edit: On a side note, I got a Gtx 770 msi twin frozr recently, pretty disappointed, and I wish I had spent the extra for a 290 or 290x.

Yea same here the msi gaming tf 2gb and it was 450 because the prices on the 290s were 500 and out of stock, i love nvidas software and ease of use, but im thinking of moving from the 770 to a 4gb 290x specifically because i run 3 1080p monitors so highe vram and bus would definately help now that im breaking the 4k res world

So im selling my 770 and purchased a r9 290 for 400 to replace it and gonna get another later for xfire since my board is the z77 v lx board and will not run sli. This 2 in xfire @x8 each should still do better then the 770 until im ready for a mobo and cpu swap im hoping, then going with maybe 4770k waterblock and ROG VII Hero should bump that performance up nicely

Im going t be playing games at 5760x1080 mainly driving sims and also the division when it comes out and if it supports triple screen that aswell. i play alot of things but the main being Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2 and 1 and nothing else stays as mainstream for me but i do play watch dogs as well as some other AAA titles
so pretty much i play everything and i game at 1920 and beyond with high to max in most whatever i can

Then the R9 290 would be best for you. With 4gb of gddr5 vram, it will be plenty for multiple screens. The GTX 770 is good, butwith 2GB of gddr5 vram , it will struggle at that resolution. Also one thing you have to keep in mind: DONT BUY THE REFERENCE DESIGN VERSION from the R9 290. I made that mistake, and i ended up removing the reference cooler to replacing it with kraken g10 + x60. It was a pain in the ass to mount that thing (but it fixed the high temps problem). Anyway , good options are the Asus r9 290 directcu 2, Gigabyte r9 290 windforce and MSI r9 290 Vapor-x versions. Also alot more games are going to benefit from the mantle api. See this thread : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/mantle-gta-v-rockstar,news-48345.html. Games such as GTA 5 ! And alot more, maybe even the division? It's ofcourse not on this list, since its coming out like mid to end 2015.

oh yes this is amazing news I will definitely go with the mantlecapable cards ive alreay priced and ordered one of the asus 290s because their dc2 coolers ive experience with in my old 660ti and i prefer them over the msi one that i currently have on my 770. In my experiences i rank the asus models above msi, even the software GPUTweak is a life saver i still use it from my asus card over afterburner software. Now next question im ure i already know the answer to is a power supply is more then likely in need if i run two of these 290s in crossfire even if they only will run at PCIe x8 so what would you guys suggest as a decent level, i dont want to overkill but roughly have about 50watts overhead, im currenty on a 650w 80+ bronze

It should be fine. I run a 750 watt 80+ gold psu, and i use ~500 watts when cpu + gpu are at 100% load. And then you have to bear in mind, that i run a fx-8320 (125 watt). Intel CPU's tend to be more efficient when it comes to power consumption. But i think you are going to run into some trouble when you're going to use x-fire. My suggestion would be to buy 1 r9 290, then replace your psu with something like an Corsair RM1000 or a AX1200i. These psu's are extremely efficient, and you dont have to worry burning 1 Kw per hour when using your computer (unless the computer needs 1 kilo watt). Then when you have the new psu, buy a second r9 290. Although you do have to bear in mind that adding a second r9 290 wont double the performance. It will increase, but if you are on a budget i would suggest try your games with a single card and see how it performs. Just to add that second r9 290 would cost you ~600,- (gpu + psu). However, the psu is something you wont have to upgrade for a long period of time. Components get more and more effiecient so i dont think psu's from 1500 watts will be needed in the future.

So many bad answers until I saw VincentiusIV. The r9 290 crushes the 770 at a very small price increase (see below). It is easily on pace with the 780 (http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_r9_290_review_benchmarks,23.html) , and is actually better at higher resolutions than the 780, since it has 4GB of VRAM ensureing you can play on high settings. Current games at 1440p already verge on 3GB. And you can pick up a r9 290 for
$30 more than the 770, not $100. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125505&cm_re=r9_290-_-14-125-505-_-Product

Yeah it's pretty much going to be go for the 290 and if you can pick up the Gigabyte 290 OC Edition it run's very cool and made with much better components then most of the other brands. And AMD drivers are much better then they used to be 5+ years ago.

Wow, Shows how much blind fan boyism there is in a supposedly tech savvy forum. This is why Nvidia is able to keep their prices up and sell you parts that underperform in comparison to its competition for the same price... r9 290 is easily equal to a 780, and even able to outperform it in some games. The 770 isn't even in the same ballpark as a r9 290.
