fx 8350 vs i5 4440

Photoshop is tricky, though I suspect it's not well threaded so my guess would the the i5-4440.
Video editing (during the conversion part) would likely be better on the FX-8350 though I can't confirm that. In HANDBRAKE for example, I use all eight threads (4 physical cores) at 100%.
720p phone conversion can be done two says:
a) Hardware accelerated (such as NVENC on an NVidia card), with minimal CPU usage, or
b) Software only (i.e. Handbrake)
Quality using hardware acceleration is often poor quality but may look just fine on a phone.
For GAMES, then i5-4440 would be faster for 99% of the games.
I'll see if I can find any good benchmarks..

if the price is the same i would get the fx 8350 its a really good chip but i have been seeing them all over for like 150 at that price the fx 8350 is amazing

Wow, I'm very surprised at how poorly the FX-8350 did there.
Keep in mind the i5-4440 can't overclock but in Handbrake the i5-3570K @3.4GHz tied the FX-8350 at 4.8GHz!!
In GIMP at the top it's even worse since it's not fully thread optimized so I suspect this would represent Photoshop performance as well.
If these numbers are true then get the i5-4440.

I've looked up graphs too and the 8 core AMD was either way behind or a few seconds ahead of even a locked i5 using handbrake for example, they really are strong cpu's.
