Xp recognizes cd/dvd drive but bios does not

Toshiba Tecra A4 PTA42U: Bios only recognizes original cd/dvd drive but only boots from and reads cd's not dvd's. I installed another cd/dvd drive and it is not recognized by the bios but when xp loads it detects the drive as "DVD-RAM"and I can use it to read cd's and dvd's from within xp. Thanks, GFRM
