Have I got this right?

1. Power on, go to BIOS, set boot priority to the CD drive in the computer, insert disk, reset?

This is my first time building a computer, I want to make sure I do it right.

Solution

1. Even though one is listed as SSD and the other is HDD, mistakes do happen. I've seen threads about this in here. "Oops!!"

2. With 2 drives connected, Windows generally puts the System Reserved boot partition on the second drive. 6 months from now, when you want to use that drive elsewhere...no boot for you.

Just have the target drive as the only drive connected. It takes 5 seconds to reconnect it.

Thank you. But isn't there a menu where you get to select what drive to pick? On the menu is normally the Hard Drive AND the SSD. I suppose selecting the SSD from that menu will be just as effective as unplugging the Hard Drive entirely?

Installation drive being the one I set in #1 boot priority I assume?

Exactly, so if there is a list of both the HDD and the SSD that I can manually pick anyway, why would I need to unplug the HDD to achieve the exact same outcome?

Very fair point. I'll do that instead.
