Possible problem with an SSD when gaming... Hanging?

Forgive me if this is in the wrong section, as I was not quite sure where to put this as it's both storage and gaming related.

So I've started noticing a pattern on games I play on my 250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, and that is that sometimes the game hangs... It doesn't freeze, it just kind of stops loading, akin to what would happen if you played a game on a console back in the day and you would prematurely eject the CD without turning the game off and then try to keep playing.

I am still able to play the game, but some sounds or music disappear or start looping after a while, and crucial things in gaming such as icons on a menu screen would vanish and not re-load before after around 30 seconds, and in those games where dialogue is a thing, the dialogue might halt in between sentences, and wouldn't proceed before another 30 seconds has passed.

I also suffer strangely long loading times on my SSD occasionally, I suspect it is when it stops loading? However I ran CrystalDiskMark three times in a row and after looking for comparisons of my results on the net, it didn't seem to have any problems.

Another suspicion I have is my power-supply being inefficient, or lacking. It's a Corsair TX 750W PSU, but I can't be quite certain.

My second suspicion is that it's because steam is installed on a regular disk, a Western Digitial Caviar® Green 1,5TB disk to be exact, can this cause problems for steam-games if steam itself is installed on this drive and I have a secondary library on my SSD?

Is your steam library on the caviar green?
If it is, then there's your problem, the green wd's have a weird energy saving function that spins down the hdds after some idle time (such as playing a game and using data from just the ram- not the hdd) -this will cause different gameplay problems, such as spikes or hangs-since it takes a couple of seconds for the drive to spin up again.
  2. Oh wow, this is the first time I hear about this. I am going to try moving steam onto the SSD and see if that fixes things!

    EDIT: Yeah, it fixed everything.

    Thank you so much!
