Best CPU heatsink for vertical orientation

I,m doing my first build and I've researched but can't determine which heatsink is most effective and feasible in vertical orientation. I'm concerned about clearance issues (VRM, GPU, RAM) and cooling. I'm considering Noctua NH-U14S and NH-D14/D15. Build: CM HAF-X RC-942-KKN1 case, ASUS Z87 PRO mobo, Trident X F3-1600C7D-16GTX ram, I7 4770k cpu, Corsair 760w Pro Series psu, and Sapphire R9-290 Vapor-X Tri-X oc GPU. I really think that vertical orientation in my case will provide the best airflow. P.S. I plan on a mild Cpu oc of 4.2 /4.

Solution

I went for the H100i (Would not work in your case), since it doesn't get in the way of the ram on my mobo. The Intel mobo use the ram slot closest to the CPU first, unlike AMD which uses the one furthest from the ram.

I think you'd be good as long as you stay away from high profile ram, such as the ram you have picked out. Try to find lower profile ram and you'll be good to go.

If you aren't overclocking, or want a very mild one get the evo... If you want to have more OC headroom, go with the Noctua.

I will say that I have the CPU you're getting, and it's very strong out of the box, but with 3 GPU the OC might be more worth it.

I'm more concerned with clearance issues involving ram and the gpu with a vertical orientation of the heatsink.

I think you'd be good with any of them as long as you stick to low profile ram. I mean, they are designed to work with the basic design of mobos and ram. Low profile and I see no reason that any heatsink wouldn't work with them.

It's the ram with the crazy heatsinks that you have to worry about, which usually are just there for looks and little more. Also, assuming you're running your ram at its intended settings extra cooling shouldn't be needed. Just get ram without the crazy heatsinks and you'll be golden man.

*The AMD ram I posted would be perfect, and works with Intel just fine.
