Posting from my phone -

Hey there guys. I woke up today, tried to turn my PC on and it wouldn't turn on at all. Since I've had this problem before the first thing i did was crack it open and check the PSU. Sure enough it would only start for half a second and turn off. I now have it out of the system.

I personally feel like it was due to my new video card but I need your help to figure it out.

I've been running an ATI Radeon IceQx 7750 for the past few months and I just switched it out for an evga gtx 660 sc. It worked for awhile then my PC started randomly shutting down without blue screen then with. It continued to work but like I said, when I wokeup it didnt.

My (dead) PSU is an LSP Ultra 550w ATX. "ULT-LSP550". My CPU was over clocked as well as liquid cooled by an H60. If that matters.

Any ideas?

Poor quality PSU. It would help if we knew the error codes on the blue screen.

You had 6A to spare on the 12V so that shouldn't of been an issue. It was probably just the pulling of more power from the PSU that caused it to malfunction (that's what happens when the parts are cheap)

That's kinda what I figured.

Also the blue screens were "system service error"s.

Not sure if I'm using this thread correctly by answering my own question but I'll probably be selling my old card for a PSU. What should I be looking for? I won't have too much to spend maybe 40-80 USD. Like I said I have an over clocked athlon II x4 640 and a GTX 660 SC. Any ideas?

For $50 this one is decent. I actually have this in my system right now. The modular setup is nice, and has plenty of power to run your setup, for only $50.

hitech is right, you need a decent PSU. It will seem like a good idea to cheap out on one at first, but you honestly want a solid PSU, spend more money on it. Getting a cheap PSU is like putting bald tires on a Ferrari.

The Rosewill HIVE series is described as being acceptable for its price range, but nothing of high quality. If you're investing in a PSU I would go with Antec, XFX, Corsair, or Seasonic for the main brands. The CX series under Corsair is similar to the HIVE series under Rosewill being that it's acceptable but nothing great. You'll probably be spending $70 for a good PSU with 600W.

Example:

I use the Antec Basiq 550W Plus for my 660 and it works fine. I got it about 5 years ago though so it's a bit outdated.
