I have a pc with a pentium 4 processor, 2 * 512mb ddr 2 rams, an 80 gb hdd, and no graphics card. Can someone tell me a good, practically stable linux distro for this configuration?
I'd be using bluej, programming in c, and surfing the net in chrome/chromium.
P.S.: I've already tried Ubuntu and some of its derivatives, but couldn't get convinced with its stability; Mint is not working either.
Thanks in Advance.

Look no further than Debian "stable".

For old computer consider using LXDE or straight openbox like Crunchbang.
