Hi

I recently bought a Hard Drive from eBay. It was marked as used and stated it came out of a NAS drive. It is a Seagate Barracuda 2TB.

At first it seemed to work fine but I have noticed that every time I switch the computer on it disappears from "My Computer". I have to go to disk management and re-assign the drive letter then I can access it again.

This happens every time.

My files are always still there so I am not loosing data it is just really annoying.

I did a complete format when I got the drive.

Any Ideas on how to keep the drive letter permanent?

Thank You

The drive is failing. You need to backup your data right now if you haven't already and hope the drive doesn't fail more seriously while backing up.

You should never buy a used hard drive because it will always be much more likely to fail abruptly.
Even Factory refurbished drives have a massively accelerated failure rate.

You should ALWAYS have a backup on at least 1 other device with another backup off-site preferably.

If the drive is unstable and experiencing read errors, there's nothing you can do except trash it or use it while making daily backups until it fails.
