very unstable internet problem

I have a serious internet problem. We're paying for good internet: 140Mbps down and 9,50Mbps up. I'm playing games like world of warcraft, I get disconnected randomly and frequently. When I'm on a website it stops loading suddenly and on skype the call disconnects randomly when I'm hosting the call. Sometimes this doesn't happen for a week, but it keeps comming back on random moments. I'm having the problem with both cable and wireless. I'm using a cable that's connected directly from my wall to my laptop. I've resetted the modem settings, unplugged it many times. Is there anyone out here that has any idea of what is causing this problem and how to solve it? Thanks in advance!

  1. are you using a router? i know in the past when this happened i got a new router and the problem went away.
  2. What's the status of where you're living? Could be old wiring too. If your modem and router are old (or of bad quality) it could cause these issues too.
  3. I'm using a router yes, might try to buy a new router than. Thank you for all the answers. Didn't renew since the construction of my house 12 years ago so it could be the wires to indeed. I'm living in Belgium, so internet is pretty stable here normally.
