Hi all,

Since yesterday, my laptop has been behaving badly. All of a sudden, and randomly, it will hang. The screen remains on, and I can move the cursor, but nothing works. I can't open any applications, or end them. The only thing I can do is press and hold the power button, and restart.

Any suggestions on where to start and how to diagnose what could be causing this?

Many thanks!

Have you updated any software lately, specifically have any of the drivers been modified? It sounds like a hang in a driver someplace. This could be caused by a new driver being installed, or by some piece of hardware going flaky. Have you looked at any of the event logs to see if anything had been recorded?

For starters I would run a very through Anti-virus scan, add in an anti-malware program to scan for malwares.

Defragment the hard drive and run ccleaner.

Tell me if it fixes the issue.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your response!

That was the first thing I did - updated my AV & signatures, ran a full scan. Nothing. I'm scanning with Malwarebytes and Spybot now.

I have an SSD, so from what I know, these should not be defragmented.

I'll run CC cleaner right now. I'll update later, as the hangs are random.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I thought about that too, but nothing new has been installed, at all, apart from some Windows updates. I tried looking at the event logs, but I'm not sure where to start and what to look for. Only once I got a blue screen, and I downloaded the Blue Screen Viewer, but again - not sure what it all means.

I was going to post the log from it here, but it's gone after having run CC cleaner. :(

Hi all,

OK, so I was just in the middle of a Malwarebytes scan, and it hung again. After about 2 minutes, I saw the Blue Screen.

It said: "KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR"

And then: STOP: 0x0000007A (0xFFFFF6FC4000AB48, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000056, 0X000000007F8D7860, 0XFFFFF88001569840)

Ntfs.sys - Address FFFFF88001569840 base at FFFFF8800143900, Datestamp 52e1be8a

Physical memory dump FAILED with status 0xC0000010

What now? :(

After doing a bit of research into stop 7a, status code c0000056 it looks like the error is reporting a failing hard drive. How old is your backup because you will probably need to replace the drive. My suggestion is to get everything you want to save on another media and replace the drive. Sorry for the bad news! Go ahead and Google stop 7a status c0000056 and look at the various posts.
