i probably should of posted this question originally here in the OCing section of Toms link to post original post below

Before i get started :
Cpu: I5-4670k
mobo: maximus hero
Case: Rosewill blackhawk gaming case

Hello all, building my PC monday (first timer!) when my case arrives! one of the things i overlooked was my blackhawk gaming case has a issue with some of the taller Cpu coolers like HYPER 212 EVO :( it really isn't to big of a issue actually all it requires is the removal of the left side stock fan but for me i would like to keep things on the case as is. So for moderate to high Ocing what are some decent low height coolers out there for around the same price as a hyper 212? (little more or little less). I not going to OC as soon as my pc is hooked up but i would like to have a cooler in the first place so when i do get the knowledge of how to properly OC, a decent cooler will already be there. Thanks

I know you don't want to hear this, but if you already have an EVO, keep it!

It's by FAR the best bang-for the buck cooler you're going to find, and it's size is a good thing. Think about it, heat is dissapated through the fins, so the more surface area you have, the more heat dissipation you get.

Taking the side fan off is probably a good thing - it's no longer there disrupting airflow, and it allows you to have a very good cooler like the EVO.

The trouble with smaller coolers is that they're just as expensive, or more expensive in the case of low profile coolers, and they don't do their jobs as well.

Understood, and well surprise surprise my case has arrive 3 days early on my way to pick it up right now!....along with a cooler. I dont have a hyper 212 as of yet but like you are saying it seems to be the most cost effcient thing to get for my situttion and ocing needs (being very light OCing) i'll just remove the side fan for now and look into getting one of the slim fans to put in its place next week or something. oh boy first Diy pc assembly coming super nervous :D

That's pretty exciting. And yes, it's the best option. You could get away with a Cooler Master TX3, but it performs a fair bit worse.

Can I ask why you seem to think you need a fan on the side so badly? Most of the time it actually impedes cases airflow, and the only time I would consider it is if you, say, had a crossfire setup where the graphics card didn't have much room to breathe, so you could use a side fan to force cool air into the cards' intakes.

No need to be nervous, it's a lot easier than you suggest. I would recommend looking up a good youtube video on how to assemble a computer. I like the ones by Newegg or NCIX. Then watch through the video once before you do anything. After that, go back and watch the video again, pausing and rewinding as needed to complete each step of the build.
