Poor signal speed in basement

Hello,

I moved into a new house recently and the signal speed in the basement is pretty poor. My phone, laptop and PC will connect to the internet but the speed is very slow. I was wondering what the best way is to increase the speed. I've looked into power line adapters, network extenders, and wireless access points. Which of these 3 would be best for increasing the speed in my basement, and also what specific products do you recommend? Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Darian

Of those three options I would try powerline adapters. In some houses they work great and in some not, so make sure you keep the packaging so you can return them if need be. You could put in a powerline adapter and then if you need wifi in the basement get a wireless access point to connect to the powerline adapter. If you need wired and wireless in the basement you can either get a powerline adapter with multiple Ethernet connections or you could get a wireless router and run it in AP mode (because the wireless router will usually include 4 Ethernet connections on it).

I've used network extenders before. Setup can vary from being either very easy or very headache-inducing. YMMV. But once it was set up, it worked reliably. However, the nature of extenders and repeaters, it halves your maximum bandwidth on connected devices. So, you'll get an increased speed compared to a poor signal, but your top speed is going to be half that of directly connected devices.

I'd recommend one, but that requires research best done by you. I started by searching Amazon for extenders with many good reviews, and then searching within those reviews for the model number of my router. That way, you hopefully can get a sense of how a particular extender will work with your particular router. Because you really need to get the best combination of the two components to make it work ideally.
