Hi all,

This may be my first post but I've been a reader for a while. Great community so I'm hoping someone can help.

Few items to get out of the way:

1. I'm not super-tech inclined but I did build my current PC (thanks to these boards) and I certainly learn quickly.

2. The drive in question is http:// and is out of warranty (1.5 years old).

Story:

Earlier this week I went to access the drive, and noticed it was not available when I explored windows in 'my computer'. I checked the connections, cycling them via un-plugging/plugging back in and that worked. This same thing happened again yesterday morning but this time, the drive did not come back, and it has remained this way since. I attempted to plug the drive into another PC to no avail.

If you look at the picture on Amazon, you'll notice a series of lights on the bottom-front of the drive. I believe the round light is a power-indicator, and the other thin lights indicate read/write activity.

Upon plugging in the drive, what happens now is the round light will come on and stay constant. I believe this is normal behavior. However, NONE of the other lights do anything, they don't light up, they don't flicker, they stay dark. Additionally, I cannot hear the drive spinning when I place my ear to it, nor can I feel any slight vibration at all when I hold it.

If you're familiar with this series of drives, you know that the bottom portion is, what I would call a 'dock'. The USB and Power cables plug into this dock; which in turn plugs into the drive with what looks to be a SATA port (this is where my knowledge gets hazy) and another longer series of pins/connectors.

Last night I removed the dock, it just snaps off, and attempted to plug the drive into my PC using the in-line extra cables I have but did not notice it spinning up, and since I didn't have the dock on, there were no indicator lights to view.

I know everyone saves important stuff, that's the reason for backup drives. And I know if my information was really that important I should have a backup, but the fact is I didn't. Getting this drive back up and running is extremely important. Wedding in November and we'd really like to use the pictures.

Hoping you guys can help.

I'm eastern time - I'll check again before bed, around 11 or so, and then again tomorrow (saturday).

Hi,

If you're able to connect your drive to your PC then you should have check it whether your drive was detected in BIOS or in the Disk Manager of your PC's operating system. If the drive still doesn't show up in your PC then best possible way you have is to consult it to a professional data recovery labs in your area if your data is really that important to be recovered.

Thank you for your response Trekzone. I will attempt this when I get home today and will post results afterwards. I did not attempt to look @ the BIOS the last time I did this.
