Updating my build, both are about the same price. What are the upsides/advantages to each one?
Currently running:
AMD Phenom II X4
GX 460
1080p Monitor (may look to get a 2nd)
8gb Ram
250gb ssd

The GTX760 is comparable to the 7870XT/7950. The R9-280 is a 7970.

Also, the 280 has 3GB compared to 2GB on the 760. The 280 will be better for future games.

The 280 is a bit more powerful than the 760 - http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/67581-sapphire-r...
but not always - http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/67581-sapphire-r...
it uses a bit more power than the 760 - http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/67581-sapphire-r... but runs cooler
and it overclock well - http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/67581-sapphire-r...
It looks like it'll be more expensive than a 760 - http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/67581-sapphire-r...

The r9-280x is a 7970, the r9-280 is a 7950.

You are correct. I heard that they were going to re-release the 7950 as the plain 280 but that was months ago. I figured they just decided not to.

I didn't realize that they were actually out (280 non X), that's why I didn't bother with the X, as up until apparently now, when you mentioned a 280, you actually were referring to the 280X (7970).

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

This being the 7950, I still would go R9 280.
