Just a built a computer for a friend and this is the first time where I've built a computer, pressed the power button, and absolutely nothing.

Where do I start? I guess with the PSU? How do I know this works? I'm used to a light being illuminated in the back when it has power. This one doesn't seem to have a light. It's the XFX Pro 550 (I actually ordered the XFX TS 550 but this is what Newegg sent me).

All help is much appreciated. Thanks.

The first thing to check is if all the wires are attached properly. If nothing happens when you push the power button, chances are that something is not plugged in all the way or in the right socket. I would personally unplug everything and plug it all back in again carefully.

So I *might* have a bad motherboard. I did the PSU test where you put a paperclip in the black and green wire slots and the fan turned on so that has power.

I also looked here to see if my case power button switch was bad. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/284272-31-power-case-... I did not have any success trying to start the computer. It's possible my motherboard is bad?

Do you know any other tests I can do for the motherboard to see if it's the culprit? Right now I can't swap parts between computers and I'm half tempted to send it back.

the best way to check if it is indeed the motherboard is to try other components on it, or try a different motherboard with the same components. If it's a new motherboard then it's probably pretty unlikely that the motherboard is the culprit, but you may have just missed a wire or two.
