Why is it so hard to change the font color in Windows 8.1 My dad (90 yrs) and I are learning the new windows OS but can't find the utility to change font color. I set the text to large but the font color is gray. How do I change the font color to black so a 90 yr old can see it.

Not sure if you've solved the issue.
After a few attempts on my own, playing with regedit, I have solved the issue (had tried it for a few weeks earlier last year, given up for months, then accidentally solved it today).

SOLUTION:
win + r (or right click start, 'run')
run registry: 'regedit'
go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors
Look for 'AppWorkspace'
if your default font color is gray, the data value is probably something like '157 157 157'
double click 'AppWorkspace' and change the data value to '0 0 0'
save
restart
and have your father read the text with ease

After an endless search for changing Windows 8.1 task bar text and background so these old eyes could see, I found the answer here: Scroll down to High Contrast Theme and have fun changing the colors!
