So, I have this friend and his computer crashed. Now he uses his Grandma's computer. But he plays Minecraft but my friend's Grandma doesn't have Java so he can't play Minecraft. He asked his Grandma if she could install Java, but she said no. She thinks that any program slows down her computer. I don't think that any program (even Java) slows down her computer but I need to make sure that Java doesn't slow down her computer and I need evidence it doesn't slow down her computer.

Ever program that loads (many load automatically w/o user intervention) slows down your computer..... every active program uses system resources and the less resources available the slower the computer goes when something wants to use those resources. However, the real question is will java slow down the computer enough for anyone to actually feel the difference. The other issue is are we talking a properly installed and functioning java or a borked installation..... I have had issues with a puter disappear after an uninstall / reinstall of java.

Have java on a bunch of machines here (5 desktops, 4 laptops).... but it and many other things were uninstalled on wife's box as she manages to have the system crawling in weeks after fresh OS install :)
