Video transfer from Surface to USB to PC. Will not play

I have transferred a video file (mp4) which was filmed on the Surface Pro (6.7mb) onto a USB. I need to send the USB away for the content to be assessed. When I check it on my PC it will not play. It says "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file." Please help!

Try VLC Media Player, it's free. Won't fix your WMP problem but it's the quickest way to get around it:

Hi healthseek ,
this could be due to a codec problem with media player having trouble decompressing the mp4 format ,
try installing mp4 codec for media player ,

or as phillip corcoran said install vlc player , which contains all of its own codecs and you will be able to play it with that
