Using Error-checking tool in windows 7 on SSD , what's the proper way if at all?

Hello,

I swapped my laptop's hdd for my old ssd I was using in my gaming rig. Everything works fine and I was just doing some routine maintenance and thought to try the tools option when right clicking and selecting properties for my "C" Drive (SanDisk 120GB SSD). UPDATE: Windows 7 64bit Home Premium 8GB RAM Toshiba Satellite C655 Bios all drivers etc up to date.

After doing this I came to this screen:

I have a few questions:

First, do you know if this should or shouldn't be done at all and what are the consequences good or bad? Second, if you do this what do you do and recommend and why? ie use the first option check marked, the second, both, one or the other only and why?

Also, in windows 8 it says optimize instead of defrag but I already performed WEI and I know that Windows 7 recognizes this as an SSD so I'm assuming it's peforming TRIM (I double checked and verified using fustil... on cmd) so no worries there but does this mean if I were to use the "defrag" it would optimize like in windows 8 or actually defrag anyways? It's been a few months but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it doesn't defrag but optimizes like in Win8 using TRIM but I'd like some confirmation or negation on that.

Again, everything works fine. Just doing some routine maintenance and want to learn more if I should or should not make a habit out of this or not.

I appreciate your help on this!

Thanks,

Justin S.

yes its always recommended to do it.there is no bad effect from doing

and do not DE frag-mate your ssd

@Yadhu Thanks for the response. So, with regard to check disk error you select both and run. As to the defrag option in windows 7 I know not to defrag but I believe I read somewhere that in Windows 7 it optimizes like in 8 but has not changed the terminology. If that's true then I wouldn't be defragging right? I'll have to look up more carefully where I read that when I have more time. I won't do it for now.

I'd like more confirmation negation from anyone else and perhaps some further detail as to why it's ok or not or even from you further Yadhu before taking any further action.

Thanks!
