I have an MSI Z77A-GD80 which has problem with 5x Sapphire Dual-x R9 280X cards. Two of 1x pci-e slots don't work, even with just one VGA on the mobo. Furthermore, It just boots with 3 VGA cards, not with 4+. So I returned it to the warranty and they want to change it for me. Which MSI motherboards do work with 5 VGA cards?

PSU: 2x Corsair 850W

Nothing wrong with the cards, it's those two slots which aren't compatible. The R9 280x requires a PCIe x16 slot, whereas those two slots are only PCIe x1

No motherboard I know of has 5 PCIe x16 slots, maximum is usually 3, so you need to convert those two other slots to PCIe x16 with suitable risers.

Also make sure your PSU is powerful enough for five of them.

to Phillip Corcoran

Here is an example product: Asrock X79 Extreme11:
7 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (PCIE1/PCIE2/PCIE3/PCIE4/PCIE5/PCIE6/PCIE7: x16/0/16/0/16/0/16 mode or x16/8/8/8/8/8/8 mode) (2 x PLX PEX8747 Bridges to support 4-Way SLI™ in Gen3 x16/16/16/16 mode)
- Supports AMD Quad CrossFireX™, 4-Way CrossFireX™, 3-Way CrossFireX™ and CrossFireX™
- Supports NVIDIA® Quad SLI™, 4-Way SLI™, 3-Way SLI™ and SLI™

I think it have enough PCIe bandwith!
Because you haven't heard of it therefore it is exist!

Actually, I've got a new motherboard a few days ago, but I didn't know how to close a question. Although, the motherboard you mentioned is really excellent for my purpose.
