Hi,
2 years ago i built my own 'NAS' system running Windows Server 2008 R2 so i could use the software Raid 5 it provides. (This was to save on cost of hardware raid card). It has 8 2TB drives with a raid 5 volume using all their capacity. On top of this, Truecrypt is encrypting the entire thing as a non system partition. As you can imagine, the performance is pretty crap so I want to move away from this.
But the way I see it I am stuck. Truecrypt does not allow 'in place' decryption of non system volumes. So it cant be decrypted without saving ALL the data somewhere else. I do not have any other capacity to store the data anywhere else. Even moving a bit at a time would not work since the whole lot has to be backed up so the volume can be deleted and I can start afresh?
Truecrypt does not seem to allow shrinking of the volume either. So i don't think I can move stuff off bit by bit and keep shrinking the entire thing.
So please does anyone have any ideas or solutions (hopefully i am wrong) on how this can be achieved without having to purchase storage space equivalent to whats on the drives.
