MSI 970A-G46 MOBO not posting with FX-6300

My motherboard recently went started failing and I had to order a new one. I ended up buying the MSI 790A-G46 motherboard.
I rebuilt my computer the other day when the mobo came in and I could t get the computer to POST or display anything. After bread boarding each part and making sure they all work, I found out that the bios has to be updated to support FX CPUs.
I ordered a cheap Sempron 145 to update the BIOS. I installed the sempron 145 in the new mobo. Boom. CPU starts up nice and quick. I check the Bios version to find out that it is the latest bios version 2.6. I have tried downgrading to a old BIOS. It still will not Post with the FX6300 in it.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?

Return the motherboard , it's a very poor choice for the FX8320 or 8350 , it has a poor thermal and power design.

Here's a great choice with a 8+ 2 power design , a good fit for your FX chip.

  2. Yeaa I have been seeing that a lot on the forums. There's nothing I can do to get it to work with my FX? I don't want to go thru the long hassle of dealing with a return then the long wait for the new one.
  3. Even if you got it working you will have stability and heat issues.
  4. Thank you for the swift reply and answer. Guess I'll have to be buying a new motherboard.
  5. That board isn't worth your time or money.

Keep us posted when you get a new board.
  6. Wish I would have looked more into the board. :/ wish MSI wouldn't lie about their compatibility.
