Hello,
I recently through together a build, and it appears that my pci 3.0 x16 slot is dead, and also ram slots aren't working. Here are the components in my build:
Windows 7
MSi-z87-g45 (Firmware is at 1.7)
4670k coupled with the hyper 212 evo
MSI R9 270
G Skill 2x4gb
hd + dvd drive
Corsair 600W psu

While I had a stick in both slot 2 and 4, i wasn't able to get it to post... So I removed slot 4 (I tried both sticks of ram in slot 2, and both work) , and I was able to get it to post. However I did not have a display. I tried multiple cables, DVI, HDMI, VGA, still no image. I removed the GPU from the x16 slot and connected hdmi directly into the mobo, finally I had an image. I installed Windows 7, installed the mobo software. Reinserted the GPU, still was not able to get a display. So I moved my GPU down to the pci 3.0 x8 slot, and I was able to receive an image. I installed the drivers. I even went into the bios to make sure it was set to boot to GPU. I called msi tech support and he told me to increase the dram voltage, "maybe it's not getting enough juice to power 2 sticks" I reluctantly scalled the voltage by 1 variable. I rebooted and my machine would not post. I cleared the cmos, and was able to get a post.

I tried both sticks of ram in slot 2 and 4 after I installed windows 7 64bit, thinking maybe it had something to do with it. still doesn't want to post.

I could try to see if the sticks work in 1 and 3, but my heatsink (Hyper 212 evo) barely over extends above the slot 1...
To me it sounds like I have a bad mobo, that my x16 slot is dead, and also my ram slots are bad.

Currently it's running in the pci 3.0 x8 slot, and i'm only using 4gb of ram... games run perfectly fine on it, I'm getting high fps on ultra. However I'm worried the board is going to crap out on me :/
So I come to toms hardware, asking for any troubleshooting techniques before I RMA it on monday... Any suggestions? Seems terribly odd, right?

Thank you for your reply. I downloaded and installed it, popped the other stick of ram into the 4th channel, was unable to get a display on the monitor. Totally gonna have to RMA the mobo :/
